Frequently Asked Questions

How does 150g know the protein in a photo?

It identifies each food on the plate, works out how much of it there is, and looks the numbers up. Packaged foods use the printed label or the barcode. Whole and generic foods use USDA FoodData Central. Anything it has to estimate is marked as an estimate, so you always know which kind of number you're looking at.

How accurate is it?

Label and USDA numbers are exact for the portion shown. Portions are the part that varies, so every item is counted the way you'd order it, 24 nuggets, 3 eggs, half a cup, and you can adjust the count or the portion and the grams recalculate. A kitchen scale in the photo is read too.

Does it scan barcodes?

Yes. Point the camera at the barcode and the label's own numbers come back per package or per serving, so you can log half a bar or three yogurts.

What about restaurants and takeout?

Photograph the plate. Chains with published nutrition resolve to their numbers. Everything else is estimated piece by piece and marked as an estimate.

Does it track calories, carbs and fat too?

Yes. Protein is the headline, and calories, carbs, fat and fiber are recorded for every item alongside it.

What is the protein score?

How much of a meal's calories come from protein, on a scale of 0 to 5. A grilled chicken salad scores high, a pastry scores low. It's a quick read on whether a meal is pulling its weight toward your goal.

Why 150 grams?

It's the default daily goal, roughly right for an active adult who lifts. Set your own in the app; the meter and the "to go" number follow it.

How much does it cost?

$9.99 a month or $29.99 a year, and the annual plan starts with a three-day free trial. The launch offer above brings the first year to $19.99.
